The panel where each zone is set, and where the unit reports temperatures, alarms and service needs.

Passport

What it does: It is the unit's face. On Sub-Zero's UC-24 undercounter controls the keys raise or lower the temperature one degree at a time and switch the unit itself, while the display carries the door-alarm indicator and the SERVICE message.
How it wears here: Mostly from outside the part. Island windstorm outages leave a panel dark until power returns, and a wet cloth used on it after an evening of entertaining puts water where Sub-Zero's guides say to keep it off. The display itself is seldom our first suspect.
What we check: Power at the unit and at the breaker, whether it was switched off or left in a mode, the connection between the panel and the board behind it, and whether the fault follows the panel or the board.

A blank or frozen display looks like the worst thing a wine cooler can do, and it is often the least of it. On Mercer Island, where windstorms take the power down, the first question is whether power is reaching the unit.

Dark, or switched off

Sub-Zero’s own first checks for a unit with no lights and no cooling are that it is switched on and that the home circuit breaker is on. On UC-24 undercounter models the guide adds that OFF appears on the display when the unit has been turned off at the panel. Sub-Zero’s undercounter guides describe showroom mode, in which the display shows the preset temperatures while nothing cools, and tell owners to contact Sub-Zero’s customer care about it.

Keys that ignore you

Sub-Zero asks owners to keep water off the control panel when cleaning the interior. A panel that stops answering after a wipe-down may recover once dry. One that stays unresponsive, or shows missing segments, is tested together with the control board behind it, since the fault can sit in either, and the faulty part is replaced as a wine storage repair.
